Nick
Richmond
My name is Nick Richmond and I'm from Edmonton, Alberta. My passion is photography and all things graphic design. My interest in photography is what led me to pursue the Bachelor of Design program at MacEwan University. Where I find inspiration is more often than not out in the real world and in the virtual one through other designers as well as my peers. I was drawn to the world of design because of its ability to solve problems through a visual medium. My goal is to become a stronger designer through learning and working with other professionals in the industry. Over the pandemic, I kept busy by working on personal projects as well as freelancing for clients in the Edmonton area.
Alberta Music Rebrand
This school project involved working with a real business based in Edmonton to conduct a complete brand overhaul of their existing brand. The challenge in this project was to create a single logo that encompassed the brand's values and remained relevant to their target demographic, typically being 20-30 year olds performers involved in the Edmonton music scene.
Choosing the typography and other elements in the logo I wanted them to remain approachable, inclusive and relevant to the brand while presenting a clear vision of what Alberta Music is all about, which involves acting as a label and providing booking and other services for up and coming musicians in the Edmonton Area.

This section of the project involved conducting an in depth competition analysis of existing companies that feel within the same category as Alberta Music. This also included experiencing the competition to get a strong idea of what they offer to the consumer as well as the consumer feeling towards their brands.
This section includes an initial logo exploration phase of what the new brand for Alberta Music would begin to look like.
Snobby Frog Winery
This project consisted of creating an entirely new brand from scratch picking from any category we wanted.
Choosing a wine brand offered an interesting challenge as there are so many different brands of wine out there with the challenge being for it to stand out in a positive way. Keeping this in mind I wanted the brand to feel approachable yet playful as a means to cater to the demographic that is just starting to get into wine drinking.

This section of the project involved me exploring logo sketches, layout sketches, research, type samples, color palettes and a moodboard
In store signage for the brand that would entail having “frog prints” on the floor to guide the consumer to the product paired with pull up signs.
Social Justice Campaign (Seasonal Affective Disorder)
The main objective of the project was to create a social justice campaign that resonated with us. Growing up in Alberta where we are often starved of sunlight for the winter months, Seasonal Affective Disorder becomes a real concern, although more often than not it doesn't get the recognition it deserves and is often painted with the same brush as more conventional depression. Aesthetically for this project I wanted to combine photography with illustration as well as more cursive fonts with blockier ones to further showcase the contrast of emotions people experience especially during the times the seasons change.
Wildrose Vintage Profile Video
This school project was intended as a promotional video to showcase my clients vintage clothing business Wildrose Vintage based in Edmonton. The aim of the video was to engage the viewer with how Wildrose Vintage came to be and what my clients motivations were for opening a vintage reseller business. In terms of shooting style I wanted to have a “talking head” narrating the video and informing the viewer, paired with visuals of his store space to help tell the story as well as being visually engaging.
