Hello, I'm Jaymie. I am a creative individual who has been trying to take control of the camera and designing all the birthday invitations since I was a kid. I find inspiration in the world around me, whether it is the colours and subjects in the physical environment, or the people around me. My dream graphic design career is to work in the publication world, getting lost in creating the layout of the newest New York Times bestseller. Until then, I am happy creating for the people as I love designing and creating with my clients needs in mind. Over the pandemic, I fed my crafty side by working on my crocheting and silversmithing skills, along with reading as many books as I could devour.

Play Poster: Girl Interrupted

The goal of this project was to create a poster that reflected the feel of a movie using type integrated into an image. This poster is based on Girl, Interrupted directed by Edward Crig. The movie is about individuals navigating life in an insane asylum. This is portrayed through the movie title playing with the blood in the blade and with the harsh slashing in the word “Interrupted”. The starkness of the image portrays the feel of a mental facility.

Product Advertisement Image

The basis for this photo was to take an image that can be used in an ad campaign. The product used was a bottle of vodka. One of the ways a person can ingest vodka is by soaking them in gummies then eating the vodka infused vodka. Adding the gummies to the image adds more interest to the composition. Using a glass sheet at the base to add a reflection to the composition adds a but of polish to the piece.

Emma Book Redesign

The project task was to redesign the cover and inside pages of a classic novel. The book used for this project is Emma by Jane Austen. The cover has rings in the motif to represent how the main character Emma plays matchmaker in her small town. The pens represent how in that time period, letter writing was very common, and to represent the word games she and Harriet collected.

RASC Website Redesign

The goal of this project was to redesign a website. The website used for this project was the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, Edmonton division. Along with reorganizing the content of the website to better make the information scannable, it is more user-friendly. The inspiration for this redesign was the night sky. All aesthetic choices better reflect what the organization is about.

Zapato Custom Shoes Web App

For this project, I worked with a local cobbling business, Custom Shoes by Zapato Sanchez. Zapato is an Edmonton-based business that specializes in creating custom shoes. This project aimed to develop a web-based app that consumers can access at any time, from anywhere. It will help customers create the shoes they want by comparing different colours, patterns, and decorations, creating various combinations.
