Smarty Plants is a mobile vegetable gardening game designed for Edmonton gardening enthusiasts who want to learn how to grow and care for vegetables but may feel overwhelmed on where to start, or simply don’t have time to learn in real-time. Many new enthusiasts struggle with understanding seasonal timing, plant care routines, and how to adapt to environmental factors such as temperature and weather. This project addresses the gap between interest in gardening and accessible, beginner-friendly education by translating real-world gardening knowledge into a 15-minute interactive experience.
Through quick, interactive care actions, Smarty Plants provides players with a relaxing and engaging way to build foundational gardening skills. The game design emphasizes learning through visual cues and gradual progression to reinforce key concepts such as watering, sunlight needs, and plant growth cycles. Gamifying the process reinforces gardening habits, allowing users to transfer what they learn in-game to real-life gardening situations.
The goal of this project is to create an educational tool that balances entertainment with education. The cozy mobile app balances entertainment with education, with emphasis on motivational feedback systems – making gardening approachable for young adults and the perfect, quick onboarding experience to gardening.
