Hello! My name is Caitrin. Throughout my time at MacEwan, I have developed a passion for book design and illustration. I love combining illustration, photography, and type to create unique textures. I frequently incorporate non-digital media into my work.
The book designs shown here are examples of this incorporation. The Frankenstein cover was created with scraps of leather hand-stitched together, while the title typography for The Willows was hand-rendered using water and ink.
My dream after graduation is to work as a book designer or comic illustrator!

Projects
Frankenstein
This design was the first of my mixed media book designs. The cover photography was done by me and featured leather scraps painted and hand-stitched to create a realistic effect. The interior illustration was rendered with ink pens.
The Willows
In order to maintain a mysterious atmosphere, I ditched traditional book and chapter title types for hand lettering. I used ink and water to create textures used in various interior and exterior elements of the book.
