My capstone project features a variety of educational materials that aim to enhance The Mustard Seed’s school engagement presentations. The first part includes a video series that allows youth to practice empathy for unhoused individuals by making decisions on behalf of Matthew. The second part is a group activity where participants must help their assigned character navigate struggles of resource management.
A frame of Matthew in the final video of the series, after he runs out of options and is forced to stay on the street before seeking help at a shelter.
Examples of persona activity sheets from the group activity. Participants who receive these must find a way to fulfill their needs for the week by filling out the table found on the back side by using the resources assigned to them or finding someone with a Mustard Seed service centre sheet.
Example of one of The Mustard Seed service centre activity sheets. Participants who receive this sheet can help others by converting their budget tokens into points and donating them.
Cover and sample pages of the activity guidebook, which can be used to help first-time facilitators run the activity with a group.
Samples of life event cards, which are periodically drawn by the facilitator throughout the activity and directly impact the resources of all affected participants. These events can be positive or negative, impacting characters or The Mustard Seed service centres to reflect real-life situations and challenges.
