Hello! My name is Jhaianne. I am a Filipino-Canadian graphic designer based in Edmonton. I joined the design program at MacEwan University because of my love for illustration and visual storytelling. What I love about design are the various opportunities to use my skills as an illustrator and opportunities to do projects outside of my comfort zone. I am excited to join the industry, use my skills for the community, and evolve as a designer.
Projects
The Metamorphosis Book Design
Isolation and Alienation are the main themes of Kafka's story, and the uncomfortable feeling that comes with these situations is the concept's focus. The black and white colour scheme helps convey the feeling of dread at a hopeless situation, which is also elevated through disfigured blobs and distorted lines present on the book cover and its interior. The imagery was achieved through the use of linocut.
'Up and Over' Album Design
An album redesign for the Up and Over jazz trio, a group composed of three friends who, through different personalities and musicality, have come to create music together. The concept is inspired by this formation. The album represents three separate worlds coming together to create a new one. The space theme represents the scale of their friendship and the impact that their music will have on transporting listeners to a new world.
The Griff Magazine Redesign
We were tasked to design a hypothetical magazine issue for the Griff, MacEwan’s student publication. The magazine design’s concept ‘highlights’ the students and the student experience. This concept exaggerated this aspect through the school-supply aesthetic, using bright neon colours, alluding to highlighters and paper textures throughout its pages.
